British fighters make stop at Bangor airport

BANGOR – Anyone who noticed a group of thundering jet fighters flying over the city Wednesday witnessed members of England’s Royal Air Force departing Bangor after making a pit stop.

The traveling pattern of about four fighters and support aircraft, including an L10-11 passenger aircraft transporting ground crew, is a routine sight at Bangor International Airport, according to Maj. Mark Tuck of the Bangor Air National Guard.

“They use Bangor as a refueling and rest stop about six times a year,” he said.

The RAF crews arrived Tuesday afternoon and left Bangor at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Tuck said, although he was unsure where the aircraft were headed.
