Poulin propels Husson to title USM’s Frost finishes 2nd overall

BREWSTER, Mass. – Senior Corey Poulin of Jackman shot a 3-over-par 75 for the second straight day Tuesday to finish tied for third place among individual competitors while leading Husson College of Bangor to its third consecutive New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division III championship.

Coach Bruce MacGregor’s Braves shot a 327 Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 633, 57 over par on The Captains Golf Course. Husson finished sixth in a 45-team field that included 12 Division I schools, nine Div. II entries, and 24 Div. III squads.

Former Calais High School standout James Frost of Brewer, a sophomore playing for the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, carded a 4-over 76 Tuesday to finish second among individuals, two strokes behind Connecticut’s Jordan Burke (146). The Huskies shot 665 and wound up tied for 17th overall, fifth in the Division III ranks.

Frost, Poulin, and Joe Manganaro of Saint Joseph’s College in Standish (tie for 11th, 155) earned All-New England accolades for their top-five finishes in Division III.

Husson also received strong efforts from Ross McGee of Fairfield (tie 22nd, 157), Joe Finemore of Sidney and Devon Raymond of Waterville (tie 68th each, 165), and Heath Morang of Gardiner (tie 81st, 167).
