Brewer police arrest Bangor man for OUI

A Bangor man whose vehicle had two flat tires was arrested by Brewer police Monday night.

Sgt. Jason Moffitt said that at about 10 p.m. he noticed a Jeep Wrangler driving west on Wilson Street, near Wal-Mart, with both its right side tires so flat that the rims touched the road. Moffitt said it took him a while to catch up to the Jeep because he was on the other side of Wilson Street and traffic was heavy.

Moffitt said he found the Jeep parked in the McDonald’s parking lot. He spoke with the driver, Seth Leighton, 22, of Bangor.

Moffitt said that when he asked Leighton about the Jeep, Leighton began berating him, as a town employee, about the road construction on Wilson Street. Leighton said he was just driving along when both his tires blew.

Moffitt said that as he spoke with Leighton he noticed the smell of alcohol. Leighton also appeared unsteady on his feet and that his speech was slurred. Moffitt said Leighton became belligerent when Moffitt asked him more questions.

Moffitt said Leighton performed poorly on sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. Moffitt said Leighton resisted mildly.

Moffitt said Leighton refused to undergo any tests or to sign any paperwork at Penobscot County Jail. He had to be placed in a holding cell when he was belligerent with corrections personnel.

Old Town police summoned a man Monday afternoon after he allegedly spat on his girlfriend’s mother.

Officer Seth Bear reported that at about half past noon, a woman reported she had been spat on by Philip Bailey, 19, of Old Town. The woman said she went to Bailey’s house after learning that her teenage daughter did not show up at school.

After picking up her daughter, the woman said, she was speaking with Bailey in his driveway when he spat on her face and her car.

Officer Bear summoned Bailey for assault.
