Rockwell leads PCHS by Vikes

GUILFORD – Danny Rockwell broke a 2-2 tie with 11:24 left on a Chase Burdin assist to lead the No. 1 Piscataquis boys past Searsport 4-2 in a Class C regional semifinal soccer game Thursday.

The win advances the Pirates to Saturday’s Eastern Maine Class C championship game against third-seeded Dexter.

The go-ahead goal was one of three Rockwell had in the game for 15-0-1 Piscataquis. Teammate Joe Jardine scored with 21:59 left in the first half. Freshman Roy Burdin made 12 saves on 15 shots in his first game as the Pirates’ goalie.

Josh McFarlin and Drew Mercier each scored a goal for 10-3-3 Searsport, the No. 5 seed. Jake Manner stopped 16 of 22 shots.

Dexter 2, Washington Academy 0

At East Machias, Jeremy Kenney’s first-half goal and Brandon Woodman’s second-half goal, both off Aaron Woodman passes, enabled third seeded Dexter to upset No. 2 Washington Academy.

Sam Bowers made seven saves on nine shots for 12-3-1 Dexter while Jeremy Gray stopped nine of 14 shots for 11-2 Washington Academy.

Class D

Washburn 1, Lee Academy 0

At Washburn, junior Jason Thompson made 25 saves, including several gems, and junior striker Isaac Carney scored his 20th goal of the season 6:28 into the game as No. 2 Washburn ousted No. 6 Lee Academy.

Carney scored when Zach Bird skimmed a header to him off a Sam Harris throw-in. Carney converted from 12 yards out, directing the ball past Lee goalie Kris King’s right side.

Lee outshot Washburn 31-9. King finished with four saves.

Washburn is now 11-1-4 while Lee finished at 10-7.

Class B

Winslow 6, Hermon 1

At Northport, Joe Corey scored three goals and had two assists to lead No. 2 Winslow past No. 3 Hermon.

Colin Hay netted two goals and had an assist for the 14-1-1 Black Raiders and Andrew Sirois added a goal. Eric Pendleton made nine saves on 10 shots.

Wyatt Sabo scored a goal for 10-4-2 Hermon and Corey Archer stopped 11 of 17 attempts.

Field hockey

Class A

Skowhegan 2, Gardiner 0

At Skowhegan, Katy LePage scored on a Jessie Corson assist at 32 seconds into the second half to continue No. 1 Skowhegan’s winning record to 17 games.

Becca Roy had an unassisted goal with 14:08 left in the game for 17-0 Skowhegan. Carlee Evans stopped eight of 10 shots.

Kelsey Moody made eight saves on 14 shots for 13-4 No. 2 Gardiner.

Class B

Winslow 1, Waterville 0

At Winslow, Amanda Kimball scored an unassisted goal with 16:21 left in the game to help Winslow become the Class B Eastern Maine Champions.

Cierra Byrne stopped both shots she faced for 15-1-1 Winslow.

Ashley Poulin made five saves on six shots for 15-2 Waterville.

Girls soccer

Belfast 2, Winslow 0

At Northport, Sam Ellis scored two goals in the second half as the No. 2 Lions gained a spot in Saturday’s Eastern Maine Class B Eastern Maine final against Caribou.

Katie Nickerson assisted on Ellis’ first goal with 34:46 left. Bryna Harrington stopped all four shots she faced for 16-1 Belfast.

Marie McClarie stopped 13 of 15 shots for the No. 3 Black Raiders (12-5).
