Pittsfield pair arrested after domestic dispute

PITTSFIELD – A Pittsfield couple were arrested Wednesday evening after a domestic dispute at their Libby Street home.

Timothy McCarthy, 33, reportedly wandered around town covered in his own blood for more than two hours before he was discovered at a local restaurant. Several businesses spotted the bloody man but did not contact police.

Pittsfield Officer Rodney Minoty said that McCarthy was arrested at the restaurant and charged with domestic assault and obstruction of a crime. He was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment of a deep laceration on his wrist and a cut on his neck, which police said were self-inflicted. “He basically told his victim that he was going to tell police she had injured him,” said Minoty.

After medical treatment, McCarthy was taken to Somerset County Jail and held for violation of probation. He had been arrested Sept. 1, also for domestic assault, and a condition of his probation was that he have no contact with Tracy Smith, 32, who was the reported victim of both assaults.

Smith also was arrested on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear on two counts of negotiating a worthless instrument. She posted $250 bail and was released.

Pittsfield police are also asking for the public’s help in solving two daytime burglaries, one on Berry Road on Tuesday and one on Snakeroot Road on Wednesday. No information was available on the Berry Road incident, but Minoty said a home on Snakeroot Road was entered and a Century fire safe was taken from a closet. It contained rings and bonds valued at $1,800. Also taken was jewelry from a bureau. There was no forced entry.

Minoty is asking anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary at those locations to call 487-3101.
