Bangor police on Tuesday reported several burglaries and thefts and the arrest of a Newburgh man on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

Bangor Officer Larry Morrill said that on Monday $764 was reported stolen from a deposit bag, cash box and desk over the weekend at Hair Upstairs, 667 Hogan Road. No suspects were reported and entry had not been forced, Morrill reported.

One thief stole $2 in quarters between 5 and 7 p.m. Monday after jimmying a front door to an apartment on Husson Avenue. Nothing else had been taken, the victim reported.

Stereo equipment valued at $420, a metal box and $10 in cash were reported stolen from a Birch Street residence. The victim had stayed Monday night with a friend and when he returned home about 11 a.m. Tuesday, he found his belongings had been gone through and the stereo equipment was missing.

The theft of $250 in cash and 51 OxyContin pills valued at $25 was reported to police by a man who said he suspected the friend he had been visiting. The victim and a friend told Officer Catherine Rumsey they were in town Tuesday afternoon and visited a third friend when they decided to play some pool. At the pool hall, the third friend asked to have the keys to the victim’s car so he could get his cigarettes. The friends investigated when the third friend did not return and discovered the car unlocked, keys on the seat and the money and pills gone. The incident remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.

A burglary that happened between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Monday on Broadway netted a thief $205 in prescription medications. A key apparently had been used to enter the apartment. The incident is being investigated.

A CD player valued at $125 was removed from a vehicle that the victim’s wife drove to work on Monday. When she returned home Monday evening, she and her husband discovered the missing player and filed a complaint, which remained under investigation Tuesday.

A high school student reported that when on April 3 she left a Nokia cellphone briefly at a study hall desk at Bangor High School, someone picked it up and walked off with it. She had checked with school officials, but the phone, valued at $70, had not been returned to the school office.

Millard M. Smith, 66, of Newburgh was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. Monday on a charge of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Police reported that they received a phone report of a drunken man leaving a Bangor inn in a Lincoln Town Car. Police reported the car was spotted heading south on Interstate 95 and weaving between the breakdown lane and travel lane. After they turned on the emergency lights, police said, the driver continued for a half-mile before pulling over. When asked to step out of the vehicle, Smith reportedly used the door for support and was unsteady on his feet. Smith failed a sobriety test at the scene and later showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 percent. Maine’s blood-alcohol limit is 0.08. A court date was set for May 25.
