Brewer police arrested a man Friday morning after he allegedly refused to submit to detention.
At about 8:30 a.m., according to the police report, Sgt. Arden Jones, Lt. Perry Antone and Cpl. Levi Sewall went to a South Main Street residence to check on a woman whose aunt feared she was in danger after she called asking for a ride.
The officers found the door locked. The report said the officers announced their presence several times, then warned that they would force entry if nobody opened the door.
When nobody responded, the report said, the officers tried to kick the door in. When that failed, they called Brewer Fire Department, who opened the door using a door spreader.
Sgt. Jones reportedly found a man and a woman lying on a bed when he entered the residence. The man was facing the officers, the report said, and he hid his hands behind the woman when Jones entered. The officers drew their weapons and repeatedly ordered the man, later identified as Stephen Look, 35, of Brewer, to show his hands. He eventually complied.
The report said Sgt. Jones tried to handcuff Look for safety reasons, explaining to Look that he was not under arrest. The report said Look struggled with Jones and Sewall before they could cuff both hands. Look then began to struggle more violently, the report said, requiring the officers to put him face down on the floor to protect him and others.
Antone told Look he was under arrest for failing to submit to detention.
The report said Look agreed to cooperate and walk down the stairs rather than be carried down on a backboard. Jones went to the bottom of the stairs first. The report said that on the way downstairs, Look leaned forward and jumped to the bottom. Jones stepped out of the way and grabbed Look.
According to the report, Look repeatedly threatened to kill the officers.
After placing the uncooperative Look in the cruiser, the report said, Jones turned to speak with Antone when he heard a loud noise. He found that Look had kicked out the side window of the cruiser, cutting himself on the glass in the process.
Though he refused medical treatment, Look was sent to Eastern Maine Medical Center in an ambulance, with an officer to watch him. He later was released and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with failure to submit to detention, aggravated criminal mischief and terrorizing.
The woman was taken to the hospital. Police were unsure whether she was in any actual danger.

Coover said that the frequency of burglaries at remote camps seems to increase right after deer-hunting season, when hunters head home and leave their camps unguarded.
