New real estate location

Town and Country Realtors has moved to a new location at 1162 Union St. Mike Temple Inc. constructed the building on land purchased from the city of Bangor. An open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony with special guest Gov. John Baldacci was held Nov. 19.

The 7,500-square-foot building provides more space for the agency’s 35 agents and employees.

Pocket guide to business

The newest edition of the “Pocket Guide to Maine’s Business Resources,” a directory offering information about resources aimed at helping companies thrive in Maine, is now available.

The free 26-page guide, produced by the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development’s Office of Business Development, may be requested by e-mailing biz.growth@maine.gov or by calling (800) 541-5872. It also may be downloaded from www.econdevmaine.com/doing-biz.htm.

“The guide is an important tool for our business community,” said Commissioner Jack Cashman. “It’s a concise directory for anyone seeking information on Maine’s business-related programs and organizations. The resources outlined in it can be of great value to the development and success of Maine companies.”

In a compact, comprehensive way, the guide features Maine’s many resources, including help in marketing, energy conservation, tax-incentive, loan programs and toll-free business information hotlines. It describes more than 45 business assistance programs offered by 18 state agency partners and includes a removable insert listing phone numbers and Web sites for each entry.

E-commerce training

The Women’s Business Center at Coastal Enterprises, Inc. will hold an “Introduction to E-Commerce” workshop 9 a.m.-noon, and a “Planning Your Web Site” workshop 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Bangor Career Center, Suite 3, 45 Oak St. The workshops are for women business owners.

In the morning session, participants will learn what is involved in selling products and services on the Web. In addition, the sessions will cover different types of Web sites, what developing a site entails, and ways to assess whether a Web site is appropriate for a business.

In the afternoon session, participants will explore more issues pertaining to the development of a Web site. The session will cover software and Web site development tools, discuss how to develop content and structure, and help participants understand how to work with a Web designer. Those interested in that session should attend the earlier workshop, or have an understanding of those issues.

Marita Fairfield, telecommunications business counselor for the Women’s Business Center at CEI, will be present the workshop.
