Bangor Fire Department medical personnel took a man to Eastern Maine Medical Center after he was struck by a van on Main Street on Thursday afternoon.

Bangor police Officer James Dearing said Andrew Cyr, 51, of Bangor was following his son across Main Street just opposite the fire station at 4:45 p.m.

There was no crosswalk, Dearing said, and a white Ford van driven by Paul Kelley, 51, of Hermon did not have enough time to stop before it hit Cyr.

Dearing said witnesses agreed that Kelley was not speeding. It was dark and rainy, and both Cyr and his son were wearing dark clothing.

Dearing said Cyr was seriously injured in his hip area. He was still being evaluated at EMMC Thursday night.

Bangor police arrested an unlicensed driver after he allegedly caused a serious collision while trying to evade capture early Thursday.

Officer James Hassard reported that at about half past midnight, he and Detective John Robinson were turning from Odlin Road onto Outer Hammond Street when they saw a Pontiac Grand Am leaving the rear parking lot at the Ramada Inn.

Hassard said the car accelerated and missed the gap in the median on Outer Hammond Street, “vaulting” over the raised median. The car then proceeded toward Odlin Road.

Hassard said that when he started pursuing the car, it picked up speed and tried to turn onto Odlin Road. The car turned too widely, jumping over the island at that intersection, and then collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.

The driver of the Grand Am, Justin Russell, 18, of Bangor, was not intoxicated, Hassard said. Russell said he had fled because he had no license.

He was arrested and charged with operating without a license, driving to endanger and failing to stop for a police officer. Russell did have a learner’s permit.

The driver of the truck, Howard Clouston, 42, of Bangor, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. He later was discharged.

Bangor police, assisted by Ramada Inn staff, arrested a Vermont man early Thursday after he allegedly assaulted an officer.

Officer Paul Colley reported that at about 1:30 a.m. he was in the lobby of the Ramada Inn on Odlin Road when a man and woman came into the lobby, making a lot of noise and using obscene language.

Colley said the woman quieted down when told to, but the man, later identified as Eugene Bilodeau, 23, of Burlington, Vt., refused to stop.

Bilodeau repeatedly asserted that he had a room at the inn, while Colley repeatedly told him to go to his room, Colley said.

When the manager of the inn and Colley both told Bilodeau to get his belongings and leave, Bilodeau charged at Colley and grabbed him by the collar.

Colley said that when he tried to arrest Bilodeau for disorderly conduct and assault, Bilodeau resisted violently.

Two men on the Ramada Inn staff helped subdue Bilodeau.

A man who police say was driving drunk and in possession of a concealed revolver was arrested Wednesday night in Bangor.

Bangor police Officer Wade Betters reported that at about 10:30 p.m., he met with Deputy Chief Peter Arno on Fourteenth Street.

Arno had stopped a driver who had run a red light and believed the man, Steven Allen, 32, of Bangor, was intoxicated.

Betters said Allen performed poorly on sobriety tests and was arrested.

Betters said a search of Allen’s car produced a small bag of marijuana, part of a marijuana cigarette, and an unloaded revolver wedged between the passenger seat and the center console.

Allen denied the gun was his. Betters said Allen was very belligerent all the way to Penobscot County Jail, where staff put him in a holding cell.

Betters said he found out at the jail that Allen was under a protection order from New Hampshire that prohibited possession of a firearm.

Allen was charged with operating under the influence, carrying a concealed weapon, violation of a protection order, and possession of marijuana.
