Teen says online chat led to assault

SULLIVAN – A local teenage girl was sexually assaulted Monday by a man who showed up at her house two hours after she met him in an Internet chat room, according to the Maine State Police.

The unknown man is being sought by police for allegedly forcing the girl to perform sexual acts, Sgt. Stephen Pickering said Wednesday.

The 17-year-old gave the man her address while communicating with him on an Internet chat room, Pickering said. He declined to say what road the girl lived on for concern about revealing her identity.

About two hours after the computer conversation, around 2:30 or 3 p.m., the man showed up at the house in a maroon-colored car, the detective said. The girl was home alone, he said.

“She had no idea he was coming,” Pickering said.

The man, whom the girl never had met before, left shortly after the incident, he said.

Pickering described the man as being 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He said he did not have an estimate for how old the suspect might be.

“Hopefully the computer will give us something,” the detective said.

The girl was taken to the hospital after the incident, but police did not believe she received any serious physical injuries, Pickering said. There was no indication any fight or scuffle took place during the incident, he said.

The case is being investigated by Detectives Gerald Coleman and Anna Fizell of the Maine State Police and by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, according to Pickering.

“Right now, we’re taking her word as it stands,” he said of the alleged victim.
