Hermon man arrested on jacket theft

Bangor police arrested a Hermon man Friday afternoon after he allegedly stole a leather jacket.

Officer Shawn Green reported that at about 1:45 p.m. he and Officer Myron Warner were on patrol in plainclothes outside the Bangor Mall when Green noticed a man leaving the Sears department store with a black article of clothing tucked under his arm.

Green began following the man, who he recognized from prior encounters as Jason Pete, 22, of Hermon. Green said Pete walked between a double row of parked cars, emerging with nothing under his arm.

Green found a leather jacket with a Sears tag on it between the cars, he said. He caught up with Pete, who he said admitted taking the jacket.

Officer Warner learned that Pete was free on bail on a charge of passing a bad check. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with felony theft and violation of bail.

The jacket was priced at $180.

An Eddington man was warned after allegedly giving a Bangor police lieutenant a false name on Thanksgiving night.

Lt. Steven Hunt reported that at about 10:15 p.m. he saw a red car on Ohio Street drive through a red light after stopping at the intersection with Griffin Road. The car pulled into the convenience store lot at the intersection and Hunt spoke with the driver.

The man told Hunt he had no identification on him, Hunt said, but Hunt had observed him put a wallet in his pocket. When Hunt gave dispatch the name and date of birth the driver offered, the man identified had a different eye color than the driver.

Hunt said he called for backup and asked the driver for his wallet. He found a photo ID card that identified the driver as Derek Comingo, 23, of Eddington. Comingo’s license was under suspension for failing to pay a fine.

Hunt summoned Comingo for operating after suspension. He issued him a warning about running the red light and giving an incorrect name.

A gas station employee in Bangor decided to host a lost dog herself Friday night instead of leaving it with authorities.

A woman identifying herself only as Sharon said she was pumping gas for a customer at the Hammond Street Gulf station when a dog walked up to her and then followed her into the station at about 6:30 p.m.

The woman took the dog to the Bangor police station and filed a report with Officer Desmond. She decided she would rather take the animal to her own house for the night than have it stay in a cage.

Sharon said she has a cat and dog of her own. She said the dog, although well behaved, was somewhat hyperactive and wouldn’t sit. The dog is short and yellow-colored and appears to be part beagle.

Anyone missing a dog matching this description should call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7384.
