ROCKLAND – A burglary reported the day after Thanksgiving at Wasses Hot Dogs on Park Street might be linked to similar break-ins earlier this week in the city and neighboring Thomaston.
The theft of an empty cash register was reported by the Park Street business owner at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower said.
The perpetrator smashed a window in the food wagon and stole an empty cash register, which was later recovered in woods between Park and Limerock streets, Tower said.
Last Saturday, Garden Island Cleaners on Maverick had a front-door window broken and an empty cash register stolen.
A Maine State Police trooper and tracking dog were unsuccessful in finding any suspects.
On that same day, a vehicle was reported stolen from Mr. Tire in Thomaston that might have been used in the Rockland burglary, Tower had said. The vehicle was later recovered in Coughlin Park off Rankin Street.
A short time after the burglary at the dry-cleaning business, Midcoast Marine on Route 1 in Thomaston was reported as broken into by somebody who shattered a glass front door. An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the cash register.
On Friday, Tower said the city’s detective division has leads and is continuing to investigate the thefts, he said.
