BANGOR – At this time of year, United Way of Eastern Maine is often asked if there are particular needs that agencies have that individuals or companies might be able to fill. The following is a wish list. Please call the contact person for more information.
. Bangor Area Homeless Shelter needs coffee, sugar, Kool-Aid or any powdered drink mix with sugar, paper products including paper towels, plates, bowls, cups, scratch paper or any paper that could be “recycled” to provide to guests as note paper, 40-gallon and 13-gallon trash-can liners, shampoo, white blankets only, and facial tissues. . Bucksport Area Childcare Center needs children’s hats and mittens for ages 18 months to 12 years old. They also need slippers for children ages 18 months to 6 years old. Katie Hodgins, 469-7623.
. Bangor Area Visiting Nurses needs non-alcoholic cold medications, throat lozenges, cough syrups, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc. Items past the expiration date will not be accepted. Deb Jacques, 973-6550.
. Community Health and Counseling Services needs games for all levels of ability, art supplies, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, and socks and gloves for adults. . The Next Step domestic violence project needs families that might be interested in adopting victims of domestic violence for presents and other holiday activities. They also need gas and food certificates, store gift certificates, volunteers to help fix things around the house, do light car repairs and help people pack and move. Laurie Fogelman, 667-0176.
. Open Door Recovery Center needs a tri-fold room divider, two waiting room chairs, folding chairs, a small desk, locking file cabinet and a cabinet for art supplies. Barbara Royal, 667-3210.

. Shaw House needs gift certificates to McDonalds, movie theaters, Bull Moose Music, or any salon for haircuts. Donations of personal care items also are needed, such as body spray, sticks for chapped lips, hair gel, hair spray, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, shaving cream, hairbrushes and combs, tampons and pads, or other personal care items for teens. Donations of miscellaneous items are also needed, including stationary, AA batteries, art supplies, craft kits, board games, VHS movies, slippers, pajamas, stuffed animals and other teen items.
