BANGOR – The weekend’s rain forced the Bangor Lumberjacks into their first postponement of the season Friday. Bangor postponed Friday night’s game at Winkin Complex and scheduled a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against the Aces.

Friday’s wet weather also forced the team to moved its Halloween Night promotion to Friday, Aug. 20. On that night, Lumberjacks players will wear specially-designed Halloween jerseys that will be auctioned off to the public via a silent auction during the game. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Also, fans are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes for free admission and a chance to win prizes. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s scheduled starters are Bangor’s Adam Thomas (6-4) and the Aces’ Mario Gonzalez (1-2) in the first game and Isaac Pavlik (1-2) and Marc Cerbone (3-2) in the second.

The first pitch for Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for 2 p.m.

After Sunday’s game, the Lumberjacks hit the road for a three-game series in Elmira, N.Y., against the Pioneers. Bangor will play Elmira Aug. 17-19, each game at 7 p.m.

The Lumberjacks then return to the Winkin Complex for back-to-back three-game series against the Aces and Quebec Capitales, respectively.

Pawtucket makes triple play

PAWTUCKET, R.I – Friday night’s game between the Syracuse SkyChiefs and Pawtucket Red Sox was halted by heavy rain as Pawtucket led 1-0 after three-and-a-half innings.

The game was to be resumed Saturday.

Before the game was called, the Red Sox pulled off a triple play. In the top of the fourth, Guillermo Quiroz hit a hard grounder to third. Earl Snyder stepped on the bag, fired to Tony Schrager covering second, who relayed a throw to first baseman Brian Daubach for the triple play.

It was the first triple play turned by Pawtucket since 1998.
