Morrell powers Vikes to victory

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Kylee Morrell poured in 16 points as the Caribou High girls basketball team earned a 64-31 win over Foxcroft Academy Saturday in a mutual season-opener.

Monica Selander chipped in with 15 points and Lindsay Burlock added 12 for the victorious Vikings.

Nicole Brown led the Ponies with eight points.

At Fort Kent, Kristen Violette scored eight points in the third quarter and Monique Labbe seven as the Warriors pulled away.

Mindy Morneault topped Fort Kent with 21 points, Labbe had 13, and Violette 12.

Jen Murauckas, Lindsey Gordon, and Liz Gomm each posted seven points for the Golden Bucks.

Heather Anderson had a team-best 10 points for the Pioneers of St. Agatha.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Matt Carey scored 12 of his game-high 26 points in the second quarter as the Ponies pulled out to a 25-point halftime lead en route to the win.

Greg Perry added 10 points for FA, Carey and Shane Croan picked off eight rebounds each, Josh Withee had six assists, and Lincoln Robinson made four steals.

Brad Campbell led the Vikings with 17 points, and Ben Wakana had eight.

At St. Agatha, Danny Warren poured in a game-high 29 points and Easton outscored Wisdom 25-6 in the second period to break the game open.

Warren and Hopkins each had six points in the second period.

Hopkins finished with 11 points while Mike Osgood and Brandon Carlow contributed nine apiece.

Chris Pelletier pumped in 25 points for Wisdom and Wesley Chasse scored 13 more.

At Lee, Darius Parker scored nine of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter and all from the foul line to help the Vikings of Danforth to the win.

Parker scored the 1,000th point of his four-year varsity career. Mike Hanington chipped in with 13 points for the 1-0 Vikings, who outscored Lee 33-10 in the final 11 minutes.

The Vikings outscored Lee 21-2 from the foul line in the second half and 26-6 overall.

Nate Dow had 17 points for the Pandas. Jeremy Tripp had 15 and Neil Cowan added 14.
