Children’s museum offers holiday activities

BANGOR – The holiday spirit is in the air, and the Maine Discovery Museum is ready with festive activities.

The museum’s first Holiday Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Tuesday, Dec. 29-30; from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31; and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. A morning snack will be provided and children will enjoy art and science activities and play time in the museum. Visit www.mainediscoverymuseum.org for a listing of each day’s activity theme. Pre-registration and prepayment is required. The cost is $28 per day for members, $35 for others. Space is limited to 15 children.

Parents Night Out, Holiday Edition, is back by popular demand. Bring your child to the museum from 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 11 and 12. While parents shop or enjoy quiet time, trained museum staff will provide a pizza dinner, lead fun activities and supervise play time. Each child will receive a gift. The cost is $15 per child for members, $17.50 per child for others. Preregistration required.

The museum is open during Christmas vacation week from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

. Scenes from “Narnia,” based on the C.S. Lewis book, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” performed by the Orono Community Theater, 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.

. Make homemade last minute gifts for the holidays, 2 p.m. Sunday-Monday, Dec. 21-22.

. Make a bright, beautiful collage using leftover wrapping paper, 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 27-28.
