WASHINGTON – The government is recalling thousands of snowmobiles because the skis on the vehicles can crack or break, posing a risk of injury to riders.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the red plastic skis on the 2003 Arctic Cat snowmobiles can be damaged when exposed to sunlight. The commission plans to announce this Friday, when it releases its holiday season recall list.
No injuries have been reported, but consumers are advised to stop using the snowmobiles immediately. The 3,700 vehicles being called back were sold for around $7,500 at Arctic Cat dealerships worldwide between June 2002 and December 2003.
The snowmobiles are among five new recalls on the commission’s list, which includes other holiday season products recalled in the past few weeks.
