Swanville man gets 10 years for break-in

BANGOR – A Swanville man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in Penobscot County Superior Court to charges in connection with a break-in and assault this summer at an Eddington apartment.

Douglas J. Clifford, 38, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, aggravated assault, assault and violating probation, according to Doug Campbell, assistant district attorney for Penobscot County.

That is the same sentence imposed last month on a York County man involved in the same incident.

Four men entered an apartment building on Route 9 at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, looking for a man named Lee, according to Roberts. They struck one man with a hammer before fleeing when they learned the police had been called.

Jeffrey Simpson, 38, of Newburgh and Michael Gleason, 38, of Bangor also have been arrested in connection with the incident as well as robberies in Newport and on Birch Street in Bangor. Their cases still are pending.
