HODGDON – The Aroostook Faith in Action Volunteer Caregiver Coalition will sponsor “Caring to Help Others,” a free training session for those who provide, or want to provide, informal or voluntary social, spiritual or chore support to ill, isolated or disabled older people.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7., at the Hodgdon United Methodist Church in Hodgdon. A light lunch will be served. Snow date is Thursday, Jan. 15, at the same time and location.

Information will include an overview of the aging process and related changes; information on medical transportation programs of the American Cancer Society and community volunteer groups; “red flag” warnings that may signal a change or decline in an older person’s condition; and the role of a volunteer in informal care giving.

Interested people should leave their name, phone number and the number of people from their group or congregation who will attend. Individuals not belonging to a specific faith community or civic organization also are welcome.
