Edwards propels Shires past ‘Cats Houlton grabs early lead, beats PI

HOULTON – Dustin Edwards scored 13 of his 20 points in the first quarter Wednesday night to help the Shiretowners jump out to a 22-10 lead en route to a 78-59 boys basketball victory over Presque Isle.

Mark Socoby chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Leif O’Connell put in 16 points. Danny Bartlett contributed nine assists and Brett Miles had four steals.

Kyle Rideout paced the Wildcats with 21 points, Chris Carlin netted 17 and Greg Whitaker added 10.

At Fort Kent, the Warriors outscored the Vikings 20-2 in the fourth quarter by virtue of a balanced scoring attack led by Seth Rivera’s 10 points, giving first-year coach Tim Farrar his first win.

Andy Ouellette and Thomas Bard chipped in with nine points apiece for Fort Kent.

Brad Campbell led all scorers with 25 points, 20 of which came in the first half, for Caribou. He hit five 3-pointers.
