4th-quarter run sends Nokomis past Old Town

NEWPORT – Tiffany Carter scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter as Nokomis pulled away for a 40-30 schoolgirl basketball win over Old Town on Saturday.

Michelle Barden (5 steals) and Aimee Paradis had nine points apiece for the Warriors, and Alyssa Bragdon grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Kristi Mitchell scored eight points for Old Town and sister Leona Mitchell (9 rebounds) and Darcy Spencer had seven each.

At Ellsworth, Michelle Post made five of her six 3-pointers in the second quarter on her way to a game-high 30 points as the Wildcats beat the Eagles.

Presque Isle made 12 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to help extend its lead. Anna Delong added eight points.

Ginny Dalrymple paced Ellsworth with 12 points while Ashley Oleson contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.

At Brewer, early second-period goals by Jake Girardin and Adam Longchamps and Nick Langlais’ six saves enabled Lewiston to even its record at 2-2.

Adam Wilding and Kevin LeBlanc had assists for Lewiston while Ben Caldwell scored for 1-3 Brewer off assists from Matt Grimes and Jake Richter. Aaron Saunders stopped 37 shots.

Houlton-Hodgdon 2, Hampden 1

At Millar Arena in Houlton Saturday, Mitch Hall’s power play goal with 7:31 remaining supplied the Blackhawks with their triumph.

Hall one-timed a cross-ice pass from Kevin Carton behind Broncos goalie Rory Woods. Sam Tweedie also assisted on the game-winner.

Andy Clark had tied it for the 2-1 Blackhawks earlier in the period off assists from Ben Henderson and Micah Carton. Nic Joslyn finished with 23 saves.

Chris Pease scored for 1-2 Hampden, and Woods made 17 saves.
