Go to seed

This time of year, it seems pomegranates are popping up everywhere. Those little seeds taste great, but the effort exerted to eat them hardly seems worth it. But the Pomegranate Council’s Web site has a whole range of recipes, including the pictured Chicken Enchiladas with Cream Sauce and Pomegranate, which may make you change your mind. In addition, the site describes how to eat pomegranates without making a huge mess, and it solves the great seed debate – it doesn’t matter whether you eat them or spit them out. For information, check out www.pomegranates.org.

New for Newman’s

If you’re wild about Newman’s Own salsa, pasta sauces or salad dressings, imagine how excited your dog will be when you add a gourmet touch to his diet, too, with Newman’s Own Organics Premium Pet Food. They are made from certified organic ingredients, with the exception of the primary meat source, chicken, which comes from Bell & Evans. Though Bell & Evans’ birds aren’t certified organic, they contain no antibiotics and are fed an all-vegetable diet. Newman’s Own Organics are available at Green Acres Kennel Shop and the Natural Living Center in Bangor and the Belfast Co-op. For more information, visit www.newmansownorganics.com
