N.B. man sentenced for cross-border chase

WOODSTOCK, New Brunswick – A man who led New Brunswick police on a cross-border chase into Maine has been sentenced to seven months in jail.

Antoine Beals, 27, was sentenced Tuesday for theft, assaulting police, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Beals stole $10 worth of gas from a station near Woodstock in mid-October.

He was pulled over by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police near Florenceville, but refused to turn off his car’s engine. When a police officer tried to remove the keys, Beals sped off.

Beals’ pregnant fiancee was in the car throughout the 30-mile chase that followed.
