Williams, Foster help Hawks knock off Tigers

FORT FAIRFIELD – Hodgdon’s Samantha Williams rebounded a teammate’s missed free throw and hit her only basket of the game with seven seconds left to clinch a 49-46 victory over Fort Fairfield as two undefeated schoolgirl basketball teams met Monday.

Erin Foster scored a game-high 19 points for the Hawks and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Collette Sloat had nine points.

Libby Gardner’s 13 points, Dani Searles’ eight and Amanda Churchill’s 11 rebounds and three blocked shots powered Fort Fairfield.

At the Forum in Presque Isle, Trevor Graves had two goals and three assists as the host Wildcats broke the game open with four goals in the second period.

Presque Isle led 1-0 after the first period before outscoring the Minutemen 4-1 in the second period to take a 5-1 lead.

Ryan Cyr and Ben Sirois added two goals each for Presque Isle, while Ben Baker and Corey Collins scored one goal each.

Tyler Pelkey led Stearns with a goal and an assist. Devin Pelkey also scored for the Minutemen.

Presque Isle goalie Bryan Fowler made 16 saves on 18 shots, while Stearns goalie Jay Kim made 37 saves on 45 shots.

At Washburn, Jason Thompson scored 24 points to help lead Washburn past Limestone.

Adam Thompson netted 13 points for the Beavers and Chris Pesut added 12.
