Martin, McIntosh power Husson to two victories

BANGOR – The Husson College women’s basketball team won two games over the weekend to improve to 7-2 with a 77-43 victory over Johnson State Sunday and a 65-49 win over Castleton State Saturday at Newman Gym.

On Sunday, Crystal Martin scored 19 points to give the Braves a win on Sunday.

Sarah Davis and Holly Gracie had 12 apiece for the winners while Shauna Mullenix had 10.

On Saturday, Annie McIntosh netted 15 points and had nine rebounds to help Husson get the win.

Martin scored 12 points for the Braves and Stephanie Noyes added 10.

UM-Farmington wins two

At Farmington, Danielle Mayer scored 12 points and had five steals to help the University of Maine at Farmington to the 90-32 win over Becker College on Sunday. The Beavers also beat Elms College on Saturday, 67-31.

On Saturday, Karen Sirois and Sophia Stanley each scored nine points to lead UM-Farmington. Kari Simpson had 12 rebounds.

On Sunday, Meagan Cyr, Kate LaHate, and Sara Martin each netted 11 points for the Beavers. Cheryl Kempton added 10 points and Karen Sirois had nine steals.

Castleton 48, Maine Maritime 44

At Castine, Maine Maritime Academy began the weekend with a win – 77-37 over Johnson State Saturday – but then was dealt a 48-44 loss by Castleton State on Sunday.

On Sunday, Beth Ratner scored 17 points to help lead Castleton State past MMA.

Shelly Gott of Mount Desert scored 14 points for the Mariners as Meghan Marshall added 11 points and had eight rebounds.

On Saturday, Gott collected a game- and career-high 23 points plus nine rebounds to lead the Mariners.

Katie Clapham added 15 for MMA and Marshall chipped in six points and 10 rebounds.

UM-Farmington wins two

At Farmington, Thomaston’s Travis Magnusson scored a combined 40 points in two games to lead the UMF Beavers to wins over Becker and Elms College.

University of Maine-Farmington defeated Elms 90-80 Sunday and Becker 69-43 on Saturday.

On Sunday, Magnusson netted 23 points and had eight assists to help lead the University of Maine at Farmington past Elms College on Sunday.

Bobby Deetjen scored 18 points for the Beavers and Steve Ginn added 17. Luke Nielsen had 12 points.

On Saturday, Magnusson tossed in 17 points to power the Beavers and Deetjen had 14.

Husson sweeps weekend games

At Bangor, Husson College knocked off Johnson State 105-64 Sunday after defeating Castleton State 91-80 Saturday to start the second half of its season on a roll.

On Sunday, Guilford’s Buddy Leavitt led five Husson players in double figures with 21 points.

Freshman Tyler Muzzy of Greenville notched 18 points and 14 rebounds while Bill Beauregard scored 17 for Husson. Phil White chipped in with 13 and Matt Mulligan 12.

On Saturday, Ailey paced Husson with 25 points and six assists. Leavitt netted 21 points for Husson and Beauregard had 14. Muzzy had 10 points and eight boards.
