Ale art

Kitty Hudson of Missouri used an 80-year-old photograph taken by her grandparents on Monhegan Island as the basis for her winning entry in the third annual D.L. Geary Brewing Co. Label Design Competition. Each year, David Geary selects a design by a Maine College of Art student to be included on his summer ale labels. For her efforts, Hudson received $4,000, which she plans to use for art supplies and living expenses. Hudson, a 27-year-old in her first year at MECA, is a fan of Geary’s ales and says, “I can’t wait to see the finished product in the grocery store.”

Tea-lightful

The Celadon Tea Set ($22) and Bamboo Tray ($9.50) are a soothing and stylish way to serve tea. Both are available through the Stash Tea Catalog, which offers more than 200 blends of specialty teas, a variety of teapots, infusers, cookies and gift sets, such as the Chai Tea Gift Pack or the Zen Sampler. To order a free catalog, call (800) 800 TEAS or visit www.stashtea.com.

The grill is back

Now that it’s warm enough to take the grill out of storage, don’t you think it’s time to try something new? Go beyond burgers and hot dogs with “Weber’s Book of Grilled Pizza,” written by Bob Blumer, aka “The Surreal Gourmet.” You’re probably thinking, “Grilled pizza? How the heck do I do that?” Blumer covers all the bases, including how not to burn it. The book includes recipes plain and fancy, including Sunny-Side-Up Breakfast Pizza (for those of you who have enough time to fire up the grill, take a shower and get dressed before 7 a.m.). If you don’t, there are enough dinner pizzas to keep you busy all summer long, including Chinese Chicken Pizza with Hoisin Sauce and Prosciutto, Parmesan and Asparagus Pizza. For a free copy of the booklet, call (800) GRILL-OUT or e-mail grillout@weber.com.
