MDI holds on, tops Ellsworth

MOUNT DESERT – Brian O’Connell’s six-foot jumper from the paint with 30 seconds left gave Mount Desert Island a four-point lead and enabled the Trojans to hold off the rallying Ellsworth Eagles 51-48 in boys high school basketball action Tuesday night.

Booth Dargis added a free throw seconds later for the Trojans, who led by as many as 18 points in the first half.

O’Connell finished with 12 points and Jon Lewis contributed 11 for MDI. O’Connell had six of his 12 in the fourth quarter.

Andy Tracy poured in a game-high 22 points for Ellsworth, including 15 in the fourth quarter.
