Maine women blank UConn

ORONO – Tristan Desmet scored a second-period goal, then added an empty-net tally with 19 seconds remaining in the game to lead Maine by Connecticut 2-0 in women’s hockey action Friday night at Alfond Arena.

Meagan Aarts, Emily Stevens, Karen Droog and Cheryl White all helped with assists for UMaine (8-9-3 overall, 5-3-1 Hockey East). Lara Smart saved all 30 shots she faced.

For UConn (6-12-3, 2-4-1 HE), Shannon Murphy made 26 saves on 27 shots. The Huskies went 0-for-7 on the power play.

Women’s basketball

Wesleyan 45, Colby 41

At Waterville, Hannah Stubbs scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Wesleyan University women past the White Mules.

Billi Blanchard of Presque Isle led the Mules with eight points.
