Shiretowners top Calais

HOULTON – Mark Socoby collected 27 points and 11 rebounds while Leif O’Connell notched 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Shiretowners avenged their only loss with a 49-37 schoolboy basketball victory over Calais.

Scott McDonald led the Blue Devils with 16.

At the Forum in Presque Isle, Jason Huntley scored 21 seconds into overtime to lift Hampden Academy to a 5-4 schoolboy hockey victory Saturday.

Kevin Brooks earned an assist on the game-winner, which improved the Broncos’ record to 7-6.

Hampden’s Steve Boutin tied the game with 23 seconds left in third period on an assist from Huntley.

Huntley finished with a goal and two assists, while Boutin had two goals. Matt Soucy and Kyle Weiland each added goals for the Broncos, while Mike Brown and Paul Morrison each had an assist.

Trevor Graves had a hat trick for Presque Isle. Erik St. Peter scored the 6-6 Wildcats’ fourth goal, while Brandon Berube and Ben Sirois were credited with assists.

Hampden outshot Presque Isle 36-23. Sophomore goalie Brendon Esquibel made 31 saves for Presque Isle in his second varsity start. Rory Woods and Ryan Richards combined to make 19 saves for Hampden.

At Stacyville, Krystal McMoarn scored 11 points to lead host Katahdin to the one-point victory.

Jessica Greene added nine points for the Cougars, while K.C. Duffy-Stanley and Brandy Violette scored seven points each.
