Davis RBI caps 3-run rally as Stearns nips Penquis

MILLINOCKET – Nicole Davis’ sacrifice fly scored Leslie Osborne to highlight a three-run seventh-inning rally Friday as the Stearns Minutemen rallied for a 10-9 schoolgirl softball victory over Penquis of Milo..

Becca Saucier singled and scored on an Osborne single and Jackie Caverly plated Jessica Jandreau (walk) with a single in the pivotal seventh inning. Jordan Legassey paced Stearns with a two-run home run, a triple and two singles and four total RBIs.

Saucier singled four times and Osborne had two singles (1 RBI) behind winner Kristina MacKenzie, who struck out nine.

Lil Gerrish tripled, doubled and singled for the Patriots. Loser Megan Russell, who fanned 10, provided two singles and two RBIs. Lindsay Ouellette hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

At Bangor, Renee Mick drove in the winning run for Bangor Christian on a two-run double in the seventh.

Mick also had another double and a single while Meredith Moores had three singles with an RBI and scored three runs.

For Dexter, Carrie Nelson, Frankie Bohm and Kristy Veazie rapped a double and a single apiece. Sarah Carnes singled twice.

At Guilford, Greta Korsman pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight while hitting a double and two singles for two RBIs for the Pirates.

Lacey Hanscom and Carolyn Emery each had four singles while Megan Galuski had a double and a single for five RBIs. Stephanie Wentworth knocked in two runs on three singles while Alice White-Cyr hit three singles and scored three runs.

For Penobscot Valley of Howland, Erica Snape singled twice.

At Searsport, Lura Carroll’s fifth inning two-run double keyed the Vikings’ comeback win over the Eagles.

Erica Curtis had a single and two runs batted in for Searsport.

Jen Woods had a three-run home run and a single to lead George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

At Orono, Nikki Novak’s three-run homer in the second gave the Crusaders the lead for good.

Novak had a triple and two singles to go with her homer. She had four RBIs.

Keegan Richard had a two-run double and three singles (RBI). Rebecca Stevens had three singles while Alex Waring, Amanda Sleeper and Amelia Mitchell-Storer had two singles apiece. Ada Athane went the distance for the win.

Hadley See and Molly Dupere had two singles and two RBIs each and Michelle Benoit doubled.

At Hermon, the Hawks jumped out to a 13-0 lead after two innings and held off a Red Devil comeback.

Rachel Nightingale drove in five runs on three singles while Jodi Reynolds also singled three times. Briana Brice and Krystal Terrill had two singles and two RBIs each for Hermon.

Jen Allen had five singles and Steph Partridge had a double and three singles for Central of Corinth.

At East Millinocket, Kari Vance pitched a five-inning perfect game and hit two singles leading the Lynx of Lincoln to victory.

Brandi Rideout, Kylee Allen and Chelsea McCafferty each had a double and a single for Mattanawcook Academy while Jaide Littlefield nailed a solo home run. Cassie Carver contributed two singles.

At Hermon on Thursday, Heidi Chan led Ellsworth with three singles.

Becca Saunders added two singles for the Eagles.

At Deer Isle, Monica Stanley’s three-run triple and Meghan Ruhlin’s two-run single powered a seven-run seventh-inning rally that erased an 8-4 deficit.

Jill Osier had a double and a single with three RBIs. She earned the win with six innings of three-hit, three-run, 10-strikeout relief.

Tess Bickford singled twice and had an RBI for Sumner.

Meghan Wiberg had a two-run homer, double and single (3 RBIs) for Deer Isle-Stonington.

At Newcastle, Morgan Crandall (3-0) pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking three.

Crandall also tripled and singled for two RBIs. Kelsey Bryant had two singles and an RBI. Ashley Bryant and Kim Walker hit a triple and double, respectively.

Kristin Magnusson, Paige Mai, and Megan Osier singled for the Eagles.

At Guilford, Randy Burgess and Ben Smith had two-run home runs in the first inning for the Pirates as they downed the Howlers.

Burgess added a triple and a single to his home run while Smith also singled for Piscataquis.

Keith Chapman homered and singled and Brody Artes had two singles for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Rockland, Ben Muniz and Greg Creek combined on a six-hitter and Creek put down a last-inning rally to lead Maranacook of Readfield.

For the visiting Black Bears, Mike Buckley had two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Brian Cook doubled twice and had two RBIs while Creek had two singles.

Blair Drinkwater singled twice to pace the Tigers. John Bonney delivered an RBI double and Adam Ross had an RBI single.

At Deer Isle, Eric Ray’s lead-off homer triggered a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth that snapped a 4-4 tie and sent Deer Isle-Stonington on their way to their first win of the season.

Ray had two base hits to go with his homer; Josh Bolton had a double and three base hits and Bennett Gray contributed three singles as did Daryl Dunham. Eric Robbins went the distance for the win.

Mike Cowperthwaite belted a two-run homer and also singled for Sumner while Jay Huber singled three times.

At Hermon, Matt Watson’s fourth inning grand slam led the Hawks past the Red Devils.

Seth Strout had a triple, two singles and two RBIs and Billy Kane singled twice for Central of Corinth.

Malone also had a pair of singles and drove in a run and Jeff Murchison had a two-run double. Tyler Libbey also doubled for Mattanawcook Academy.

At Orono, Mike Merritt had a single, a two-run double and two stolen bases leading Orono to victory.

Bo Thomas nailed a two-run homer while Mike Violette hit two singles for two RBIs and scored two runs. Ryan Levesque helped out with two singles and a double.

James Strout had two singles and an RBI for John Bapst while Andy Tremble had a single, a double and a stolen base.
