Schools pitches Houlton past Tigers

HOULTON – Freshman right hander Ryan Schools pitched six innings of two-hit ball, striking out 12 and walking one Friday, to pace Houlton to a 6-0 schoolboy baseball victory over Fort Fairfield.

Paul Cain pitched a scoreless seventh for Houlton and smacked a three-run double to key the Shires’ five-run second inning. Mike Lenentine singled twice.

Ryan Dorsey singled twice for Fort Fairfield.

At Dyer Brook, Zach Philibert led Southern Aroostook with two singles and three RBIs.

Jeff Swallow had two singles and two RBIs while Corey Edkins added two singles.

For Washburn, Chris Tupper hit a double and three singles for an RBI while Josh Maynard pounded out three singles.

Cliff Urquhart had a two-run single for Shead of Eastport.

At Guilford, Randy Burgess and Ben Smith had two-run home runs in the first inning for the Pirates as they downed the Howlers.

Burgess added a triple and a single to his home run while Smith also singled for Piscataquis.

Keith Chapman homered and singled and Brody Artes had two singles for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Rockland, Ben Muniz and Greg Creek combined on a six-hitter and Creek put down a last-inning rally to lead Maranacook of Readfield.

For the visiting Black Bears, Mike Buckley had two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Brian Cook doubled twice and had two RBIs while Creek had two singles.

Blair Drinkwater singled twice to pace the Tigers. John Bonney delivered an RBI double and Adam Ross had an RBI single.

At Deer Isle, Eric Ray’s lead-off homer triggered a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth that snapped a 4-4 tie and sent Deer Isle-Stonington on their way to their first win of the season.

Ray had two base hits to go with his homer; Josh Bolton had a double and three base hits and Bennett Gray contributed three singles as did Daryl Dunham. Eric Robbins went the distance for the win.

Mike Cowperthwaite belted a two-run homer and also singled for Sumner while Jay Huber singled three times.

At Hermon, Matt Watson’s fourth inning grand slam led the Hawks past the Red Devils.

Watson also had two singles and drove in seven runs. Jason Shorey had three RBIs for Hermon.

Seth Strout had a triple, two singles and two RBIs and Billy Kane singled twice for Central of Corinth.

At Jonesport-Beals, Crystal Emerson led the Royals with a two-run homer, a solo home run and a single.

Chelsea Carver and Sabrina Stewart each had a triple and a single while Crystal Davis pounded out three singles.

For Shead of Eastport, Sara Ricker had two singles.

Amy Guy hit a game-tying RBI triple in the seventh as well as an RBI single while Anna Lenentine had two triples and two singles for two RBIs. Emily Cole hit two singles for two RBIs while Nichole Botting had two singles.

For Fort Fairfield, Danielle Searles had a double, a single and two RBIs while Kelly Stearns drove in two with two singles. Sabrina Butler added a two-run double.

At Hodgdon, Megan Libby had a pair of homers among her five hits as Katahdin unleashed a 30-hit attack to subdue Hodgdon.

Michalene Duffy also had five hits for the winners; Scarlet McAvoy, Mindy Libby, K.C. Duffy-Stanley and Krystle McMoran had three apiece while Morgan Anderson and Lacey Willett contributed two each.

Shanna McGary, Sara Oliver, Alicia Dwyer, Heather Martin and Danielle and Amanda Fitzpatrick had two hits each for Hodgdon.

At Millinocket, Nicole Davis’ sacrifice fly scored Leslie Osborne to highlight a three-run seventh-inning rally as the Minutemen beat the Patriots.

Becca Saucier singled and scored on an Osborne single and Jackie Caverly plated Jessica Jandreau (walk) with a single in the pivotal seventh inning. Jordan Legassey paced Stearns with a two-run home run, a triple and two singles and four total RBIs.

Saucier singled four times and Osborne had two singles (1 RBI) behind winner Kristina MacKenzie, who struck out nine.

Lil Gerrish tripled, doubled and singled for Penquis of Milo. Loser Megan Russell, who fanned 10, provided two singles and two RBIs. Lindsay Ouellette hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

At Bangor, Renee Mick drove in the winning run for Bangor Christian on a two-run double in the seventh.

For Dexter, Carrie Nelson, Frankie Bohm and Kristy Veazie rapped a double and a single apiece. Sarah Carnes singled twice.

Novak had a triple and two singles to go with her homer. She had four RBIs.

Keegan Richard had a two-run double and three singles (RBI). Rebecca Stevens had three singles while Alex Waring, Amanda Sleeper and Amelia Mitchell-Storer had two singles apiece. Ada Athane went the distance for the win.

Hadley See and Molly Dupere had two singles and two RBIs apiece and Michelle Benoit doubled.
