Girl Scout, Brownie troops hold Court of Awards

OLD TOWN – Members of Girl Scout Junior Troop 152 of Old Town and Brownie Troop 652 held their semi-annual Court of Awards at the Old Town United Methodist Church on Jan. 18. Troop 152 is led by Jacinta Torsch and Candy Ouellette. Sheena Pass and Liz Ross lead Troop 652.

Family and friends enjoyed an overview of the activities and community service projects as each girl described an activity or project.

For the Junior girls, projects included collecting children’s books for Make A Difference Day, attendance at the play “The Miracle Worker,” and a trip to the Boston Museum of Science. Ongoing projects include collecting can tabs for charity and participating in a community service project for CancerCare at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Awards were presented for leadership, attendance and community service.

Badges earned by the girls, both as a troop and individually, were presented. The girls also received patches for activities they have attended since September. These include Cookie Training, Making It Matter and the Postcard Exchange. The Postcard Exchange is a national project involving Girl Scout Troops from all 50 states.

Junior Girl Scouts Taylor Ogden and Chelsea Ketch received Bronze Awards. The Brownie troop earned activity patches for Space Explorer, Cookies Count and caroling. Each girl received incentives for a successful magazine fund-raising campaign.

The girls served refreshments after the ceremony, and a historical display of Girl Scouting was set up for viewing.
