Singer, songwriter and guitarist Derrick Semler isn’t exactly an up-and-comer. But the veteran musician from Blue Hill still manages to rock steady – and steadily release albums documenting his continuing synthesis of blues, rock, R&B and funk.

His forthcoming album, “Father and Son From Hell,” finds Semler successfully rocking, rolling and bluesing, as well as exercising his inner Al Green on tracks such as “Lovin’ Your Shoulders,” and delving into a more experimental territory with the song “Death Eatin’ a Cracker,” a track which also features his son Tim on tuba.

Besides making music, Semler focuses much of his time these days on directing the Music Laos Project, a nonprofit organization he established to bring music therapy to disabled Laotians through a partnership with the National Rehabilitation Center in Laos’ capital city, Vientiane.

This weekend, however, you can catch Semler playing some live dates with his band, which includes Joel Mann, bass, Frankie Swartz, guitar, and Michael Anderson on drums. Semler and company will play at 9 tonight at Parker’s in Ellsworth (under Turriglio’s, 59 Franklin St). And at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 20, the group will play under the name Derrick Semler and The Freakin’ Daisies (in honor of the first day of spring) at The Reef in Castine.

And in Bangor this weekend … Green & Bosse will rock the Sea Dog Company on Front Street with its brand of dirty-good blues tonight. Also, you can catch Eric Green (the singer-guitarist half of the duo) performing solo originals, country and blues from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Whig & Courier Pub. And if you’re already out and about, why not hop over to the Waterfront Bar & Grill to check out the Solo Artist Spectacular? The night starts at 9 p.m. and will feature local musicians Scott Cuddy, Tony Margaronis and others.
