ORONO – Mike Merritt’s squeeze-bunt single snapped a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth and gave the Orono Red Riots a 4-3 schoolboy baseball victory over the Nokomis Warriors Tuesday.
Ron Dube singled to start the sixth and pinch runner Mike Violette was sacrificed to second by Al Glossian before reaching third on an infield error and scoring on the Merritt bunt.
Merritt (RBI), Bo Thomas (RBI), Pat Skall and Tom Round had two singles each and Ryan Levesque had a two-run single.
Jon Blair had a two-run double for Nokomis of Newport.

At Greenville, junior lefty Tom Mason spaced three hits over five innings and Richard Folsom’s two-run triple and Brian Campbell’s two-run single keyed a seven-run first inning that erased a 3-0 deficit.

At Hermon, Phil Cayford gave up two hits, struck out four and walked two in five innings to help the Hawks roll over the Tigers.

Matt Foster led Dexter with an RBI double.

At East Millinocket, three pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Katahdin of Sherman Station earned its first win of the season.

Jarod Desantis hit a two-run home run for Schenck.
