Giannini up for GW job

After a flurry of postseason activity on the job front ended with him still ensconced at the University of Maine, John Giannini’s name has once again been mentioned in connection with a coaching position.

The Washington Post has reported that Giannini is one of seven candidates for the vacant post at George Washington University.

Other candidates include Penn State’s Jerry Dunn, Jim Larranga of George Mason, Fran McCaffery of North Carolina-Greensboro, Willis Wilson of Rice, Fran O’Hanlon of Lafayette and GW women’s coach Joe McKeown.

Giannini was a candidate for positions at Rhode Island and Tennessee and was mentioned in connection with jobs at La Salle and Drexel immediately following the season.

Giannini could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.

George Washington coach Tom Penders resigned effective June 30, citing job burnout. His tenure was most recently marked by allegations that players had committed NCAA violations by using a long distance calling code belonging to his son (and assistant coach) Tommy Penders, racking up $1,400 in charges.
