Williams to deliver first pitch for Sea Dogs

PORTLAND – Dick Williams, who managed the 1967 Boston Red Sox to their “Impossible Dream” season, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch when the Portland Sea Dogs play their home opener on Thursday, April 15, at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs, who opened their season Thursday night at Altoona, Penn., are beginning their 11th season in the Class AA Eastern League and second year as a Boston affiliate.

Williams was a rookie manager in 1967 when the Red Sox, who finished ninth in the American League a year earlier, won the AL title and advanced to the World Series.

Opening ceremonies for the Sea Dogs’ home opener against the Binghamton Mets are scheduled to begin at 5:50 p.m., with the first pitch set for 6:20.
