New Hampshire man faces charges in assault

A Portsmouth, N.H., man allegedly fled to Hudson after threatening to kill his girlfriend Sunday night.

Deputy Mark Lloyd of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Dennis Jette, 44, came home drunk Sunday night to his Portsmouth residence and demanded sex from his girlfriend, threatening to stab her when she refused. Jette allegedly said, “I’m gonna kill you. It’s time for you to die,” while holding a knife. When his girlfriend escaped, Jette, who was naked, allegedly chased her down the street until a passing motorist picked her up. Jette’s girlfriend suffered a cut on her hand.

Lloyd said Jette’s mother read about the case in the Portsmouth Herald and gave police a tip about Jette’s possible whereabouts. Lloyd investigated and at about 9 p.m. Tuesday found Jette in Hudson, where he was arrested without incident.

Jette is charged with first degree assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and felony possession of a dangerous weapon.

A Hampden man discovered Tuesday morning that the brake line on his pickup truck had been cut while it was parked outside his Main Road North apartment. Hampden police Officer J. D. Burke is still investigating the crime, which he said was reported Tuesday afternoon.

Brewer police say that at about 2 p.m. Tuesday a woman called saying an unknown person called her from a telephone number that did not show on caller ID. The caller asked about the woman’s bank account information, which she gave. Suspicious, the woman then called her bank and the police about the call.
