BANGOR – More than 30 poets, musicians, translators, and students and community members of Middle Eastern, Latin American and Asian descent will lend their voices to the second annual Poets/Speak!, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Bangor Public Library.
Poet Kathleen Ellis of Orono coordinated the event.
A highlight of the event will be a reading by recent contributors to area literary magazines, including Puckerbrush Review, edited by Constance Hunting of Orono; Husson College’s Crosscut; Hemlock; the Maine Review; and Stolen Island Review of the University of Maine.
Featured writers include Baron Wormser, Maine state poet laureate, who will introduce high school poets and read from “Subject Matter: Poems,” his latest book.
Poets Jennifer Gosetti and Leon Raikes will read and sign their books at the event.
Representatives from BookMarc’s Bookstore in Bangor and the University of Maine bookstore will handle book sales. Jay Bregman and his bebop band will provide live music, which is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a poem to share during the open mike session at the end of the evening.
