CASTINE – Road work has begun on Routes 166A and 166 in the Castine and Penobscot area and will continue until the end of October.
The Maine Department of Transportation project begins on Route 166 on Main Street in Castine and extends north 1.3 miles to the intersection of Routes 166 and 166A.
From there, it follows Route 166A for 3.8 miles to the northerly junction of Routes 166 and 166A and continues north of Route 166 for about 2 miles to the intersection of Routes 166 and 175.
The work will include drainage improvements, removing and recycling existing pavement, paving and safety improvements. In July, Route 166A traffic will be detoured onto Route 166 so a bridge on that section can be upgraded.
