GORHAM – Christen Lachappelle hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the third inning of the first game Friday to help lead the University of Southern Maine to a 5-1 softball victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston on their way to a sweep of a doubleheader.
The Huskies took the second game 8-0 in five innings.
In the first game, Katie Mainville earned her 11th win by allowing only four hits and one run while striking out 11 through 6 2/3 innings. Jen Cordone and Natasha Jackson each doubled and scored.
Siobhan Lynch doubled and scored for UMass Boston.
In the second game, Melissa Henderson gave up just two hits while striking out eight for Southern Maine. Jackson had two singles with an RBI, and Caterina Riitano had an RBI double. Kristen Tong and Darci Holland both had an RBI single.
Jessie Baird doubled for the Beacons.

At Waterville, Lindsey Toomey gave up only three hits, no runs, and no walks while fanning six to pick up the shutout for the White Mules.
Wendy Bonner hit a double and two singles and scored the first run for Colby. Emily Allen had a triple, double, and scored a run, and Elizabeth Riley had a RBI single.
