BANGOR – Books for camp and books for the beach, books for visitors and books for the kids, books for the hammock and books to keep.

If you are looking for a source of good books at a good price, try the annual Friends of the Bangor Public Library book sale 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the library’s Lecture Hall. Thousands of books will be available, most for just $2 or less. Help the library while getting a jump on your summer reading.

Library book sales are one of the best communitywide recycling efforts. Very few people can stand to throw books away, yet houses are limited in the number of books they can hold.

The Bangor Public Library’s sale generally is filled with good titles gently used, at a fair price – and the proceeds go toward helping the library. A large portion of the money goes toward the purchase of books on tape, and this year that use will expand to books on CDs.

If you have books to donate for the sale and can’t get them to the library, call the library at 947-8336 to arrange for a Friend to pick up your donation. The sale does not include magazines, encyclopedias or Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, so don’t offer those as donations.

If you are a Friend of the library, you may attend a preview from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 7. Those who wish to join the Friends may do so that evening. Memberships start at $5. The preview is limited to members of the Friends of the Library and to 10 books per Friend family. To obtain more information, call the library.
