BANGOR – The Heart of Maine Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will hold its dinner at 6 p.m. and installation of new officers at 7 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Miller’s Restaurant on Main Street.
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of $1,000 to the Masonic Learning Center for its work helping dyslexic children and those who have reading difficulties.
Part of the gift represents the proceeds of the singing group’s annual show, “Stars on Broadway,” which was held April 4 at the Brewer Auditorium.
The Learning Center in Bangor, having opened in 1997, has tutored nearly 200 students. The current enrollment of 48 includes youngsters from central Maine through Down East and northern Maine.
Many members of the chorus are teachers themselves. They know that despite the wonderful community and Masonic support which has the center up and running again, there are countless needs for supplies and materials.
