Orrington man gets 10 months in gun case

BANGOR – An Orrington man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court to five months in prison and five months of home confinement for being a felon in possession of a gun.

Frank Shaw, 52, also was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $3,000 fine.

Because he was convicted of possession of narcotics in 1989 in Connecticut, Shaw is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Shaw was indicted by a federal grand jury in November over an incident last summer with a neighbor. He allegedly showed up at a meeting to discuss a dispute with the man carrying a loaded automatic pistol and wearing a bulletproof vest.

At the Thursday sentencing, U.S. District Judge John Woodcock told Shaw that he was lucky to have been arrested before the “feud” with his neighbor escalated.

“I suggest while you’re in jail that you think about how you are going to defuse this situation [with your neighbor],” Woodcock said. “You either have to defuse it or move.”

Shaw was ordered to report to prison June 7.
