Highview Christian splits in twinbill

KENDUSKEAG – Highview Christian Academy rolled to a 27-2 schoolboy baseball win in the second game to earn a twinbill split Monday against Washburn.

In the second game, eighth-grader Cameron Smith belted a three-run shot in the fourth inning to fuel the second of four straight big innings for Highview of Charleston.

Washburn picked up its second win of the season with a 15-2 decision in the first game.

In the first game, back-to-back home runs by Chris Tupper (two-run) and Jay Maynard jump-started a five-run inning and the Beavers never looked back.

At Rockland, the Tigers scored six runs in the six inning to slip pace the Huskies of Pittsfield.

Greg Harjula poked a double and three singles and Jake LaBrie singled twice with two RBIs for Rockland.

Tom Twombley and Andrew St. Clair singled twice each for Maine Central Institute. Jake Laselle hit a three-run homer.

At Dexter, Matt Corbin smacked a grand slam, a triple and two singles to help the Pandas edge the Tigers.

Bruce Stevens hit a two-run homer and a single for Lee Academy behind relief winner Franklin Grant.

Dan Fields led Dexter with two singles and two RBIs, Adam Russell singled twice and stole six bases and Ross Morrison had a single and three RBIs.

At Corinth, Seth Strout, Casey Seymour and James Gray combined on a three-hitter.

Strout led the Central offense with a triple, a double, a single and three RBIs. Gray doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Andy Matulis added a triple and two RBIs and Billy Kane hit a solo home run.

Chuck Wooten paced Penquis of Milo with a triple, a single and an RBI.

At Mount Desert Island, Chris Sargent led George Stevens with two RBI-singles and two RBI-doubles.

Jake Lowell pounded out three singles for four RBIs while Mark Clapp sent home two on three singles.

For MDI, Brandon Colbeth had a double and three singles for three RBIs while Brian Greenleaf drove in two with two singles. Kris Reed added an RBI single.

At Rockport, Devin Potvin slammed two- and three-run home runs to power the Lions past the Windjammers.

Steve Johnson cranked a solo homer and Matt Woodrow chipped in with two doubles, a single and an RBI for the winners. Ben Cowan singled twice, doubled and drove in a run and Kevin Gray added two singles.

Peter Moro notched three singles for Camden Hills and Brian Fitzpatrick recorded two.

At Ellsworth, Warren Chase scored the game-winning run on a Brian Sullivan groundout in the fifth to lift the Golden Bucks to the win.

Marcus Bubar added an RBI single in the fourth. Andy Wentworth struck out five, including two in the bottom of the seventh.

Mike Archer and Derek Awalt each hit an RBI double for the Eagles. Matt Boles singled twice.

At East Sullivan, Mike Cowperthwaite led Sumner with two doubles and a single for four RBIs.

Mike Hardy scored three runs and hit a triple and a single for an RBI while Dustin Young had two singles and two RBIs.

Josh Bolton and Evan Haskell each had two singles for two RBIs for Deer Isle-Stonington while Daryl Dunham hit two singles and scored twice.

At Millinocket, the Minutemen took advantage of some Lynx mistakes to push Nick Beaulieu across the plate with the only run of the game in the first inning. The loss was Mattanawcook Academy’s first after eight wins.

Brad Wheaton tossed a two-hitter for Stearns, striking out 12 without walking a batter. Wheaton also doubled and singled.

John Crocker limited the Minutemen to three hits. Fred Pete doubled for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

At Howland, Jeremy Hallett’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Keith Champion with what proved to be the winning run as the Howlers edged the Patriots.

Marshall Wakefield had a double, single and three RBIs and Ben Sereyko had two singles and drove in two runs for Penobscot Valley.

Corey Jeskey doubled, singled and had two RBIs, Matt Conley had a double and a single and Ben Sobey had two singles and two runs batted in for Bangor Christian.

At Rockland, Kirby Gushee’s two-out, two-run double in the Tigers’ four-run sixth inning gave them control of their game with the Huskies.

Gushee allowed MCI just one hit. Caitlin Grant doubled and singled for Rockland.

Jen Cummings pitched a three-hitter and Amanda Leavitt’s singled in the fifth for MCI of Pittsfield.

At Greenville, Darcy Larsen threw a one-hitter, striking out eight and walking none, leading Greenville to the win.

Michaella Bartley had three singles for the Lakers while Jessie Craft had a home run and a single. Amber Lavigne and Stephanie Fiumenero each had two singles.

For Highview Christian, Laurene Plourde singled.

At East Corinth, Erika Morrill drove in four run on five singles, leading Penquis to the win.

Jean Hamlin had two singles and a double while Arielle Sickler hit two singles. Lillian Gerrish chipped in with a double.

For Central Jen Allen hit two singles and a double for three RBIs and Stephanie Partridge had two RBIs on three singles. Renee Trafton had a triple, a single and an RBI while Jess Kaelin had three singles and Jody Harvey added two triples. Shawna Bell had a two-run double.

At Dexter, Ashley Linscott rapped a two-run single to highlight a four-run fourth inning that carried the Pandas to victory.

Cindy Koscielny singled three times for Dexter and Karen Nelson doubled and singled. Nelson allowed only one hit in taking the loss.

At East Sullivan, senior Jill Osier tossed her second abbreviated no-hitter in four days to propel the Tigers past Deer Isle-Stonington

Osier struck out nine and walked four in a game shortened to 41/2 innings by the 12-run rule. She also pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Stearns on Friday.

Meghan Ruhlin singled twice and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Rachel Philio and Osier contributed two singles apiece.

Bangor Christian sweeps PVHS

At Howland, Kara Hartman allowed only three hits while striking out 10 to spark the Patriots to a 17-4 victory over Penobscot Valley en route to a doubleheader sweep. BC won the second game 15-3.

Lisa Phinney singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs for BC in the first game. Danielle Miller chipped in with three singles and two RBIs, Renee Mick doubled and singled and Gabby Eastman had three singles.

Meagan Cyr had a two-run single for PVHS and Krystal Levesque added an RBI single.

Kendil Snow and Andrea Sage each notched three singles for BC in the second game. Miller and Mick each chipped in with a double and single.

Cyr tripled, singled and drove in three runs for PVHS, Levesque singled twice and Sharon Drost doubled and singled.

At Millinocket, Kari Vance scattered five hits while striking out 10 to spark the Lynx of Lincoln.

Desirae Haines slammed a two-run triple and singled for the winners. Brandi Rideout added four singles and Cassie Carver chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.

Kristina MacKenzie singled twice for the Minutemen and Jessica Jandreau slapped a two-run single.

At Machias, Ashley Woodward allowed only one hit while striking out 16 and not walking a batter to lead the Knights of Harrington.

Kate Farnsworth singled in Brook Courchaine in the third for the game’s only run. Courchaine singled, stole second and then scored on Farnsworth’s single.

Jenny Grant reached Woodward for a fifth-inning single. Tracy Guptill, who allowed only four hits and didn’t walk a batter, was the hard-luck loser.
