Dinner theater

If you’re hungry for a good performance – and dinner – Penobscot Theatre Company has a deal for you. Area restaurants such as the New Moon Cafe, Thistle’s and Guinness & Porcelli’s will offer theater patrons special menus or discounts before Saturday’s gala event, “Broadway Baby!” Collene Torres, the theater’s managing director, said she hopes “attendees of our event will be inspired to ‘make a night of it’ by enjoying a meal downtown before the show.” For information, call New Moon at 990-2233, Thistle’s at 945-5480, or Guinness & Porcelli’s at 947-2300. For theater information, call the box office at 942-3333.

It’s a small world

At Cleonice Mediterranean Bistro in Ellsworth, smaller is better – well, at least for its next event. The Kermit Lynch wine dinner, presented by Ed Mansing of RP Imports and chef Rich Hanson, pairs wines from small vineyards with foods from small farms, including Joe Porada’s Trenton Bay littleneck clams, King Hill Farm lamb, and Sunset Acres rabbit, among other treats. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, and costs $65 per person. Special arrangements can be made for those who wish to eat fish instead of red meat. For information or reservations, call 664-7554.

New chef at Nouveau

Chef Paul Beaulieu has joined the crew at Caf? Nouveau on Hammond Street in Bangor, and he’s been working overtime – sharing the work ethic of owner Leslie Thistle. Beaulieu is a Bangor native who has worked alongside Emeril Lagasse at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, as well as Michelle’s Fine Dining in Bar Harbor, Montego Bay Seafood and Steakhouse in Panama City Beach, Fla., and Le Crion in Paris. Thistle said diners can expect Sunday brunch in the near future. For information, call 942-3336.
