Pooler paces MDI past Bucks

MOUNT DESERT – Andy Pooler pitched a three-hitter and helped his own cause with a double, a single and two RBIs Tuesday as the Mount Desert Island Trojans earned a 6-2 high school baseball victory over Bucksport.

MDI’s Matt Grover singled twice with an RBI. Jake Willis contributed an RBI single.

Chris Maguire and Chris Remick each had an RBI single for the Golden Bucks.

At Hermon, Andy Berry doubled and singled to knock in two runs and help lead Ellsworth past Hermon.

Nick Putnam and Bryan Gashlin each had two singles for the Eagles.

Brian McGinley had two singles with an RBI for Hermon and Brady Hurd hit two singles.

At Jonesport, Tory Dearborn hit four singles and a double to drive in two runs to help push Bangor Christian to the win.

Josh Frost had four singles and a double with an RBI for the Patriots. D.J. McCleary hit two singles and a double with three RBIs. Micah Dougherty doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Leland Faulkingham singled twice with two RBIs for Jonesport-Beals and Abraham Beal doubled and singled with an RBI.

At Milo, Levi Nickerson allowed only two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out seven to help Central of Corinth beat Penquis.

Josh Underhill doubled and singled to drive in four runs for the Red Devils and Mike Julian had two singles with two RBIs.

Wayne Lati singled to drive in two runs for the Patriots.

At Newport, Chad Dupuis hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to help the Indians hold off the Warriors.

Brian Lonko and David Dill each added two singles and an RBI in Old Town’s first win.

Dylan Carroll singled twice and had an RBI for Nokomis and Brian Hawthorne hit two singles.

At Guilford, Brian Kelso hit two home runs and a single, knocking in four runs for the Tigers.

Eric Day knocked out a homer and a double for four more RBIs. Tim McCarthy had a single, a double and two RBIs.

Josh Luellen singled, tripled, and drove in two runs for the Pirates. Joe Jardine had a single, a double and two RBIs.

At Fort Fairfield, Tyler Bernaiche singled, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch as the Tigers edged the Hawks.

Jesse Sayers doubled and singled while Bernaiche singled twice for Fort Fairfield to back Jon Everett’s six-hitter.

Jeff Condon rapped two doubles for Hodgdon.

Houlton sweeps Fort Kent

At Houlton, Corey Lewis drove in Ben Pierce, who had tripled, with a single in the fifth inning to give the Shiretowners the winning run in the first game of a doubleheader sweep against the Warriors. Houlton won the opener 4-3 and took the second game 16-2.

In the opener, Ryan Schools pitched a six-hitter, striking out eight and walking two, for Houlton. Pierce added a single, while Ian Pasquarelli plated two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

Derek Bonenfant stroked a two-run single for Fort Kent to back Matt Bouchard, who scattered seven hits.

In Game 2, Harry Austin lined four doubles good for five RBIs as the Shires won big. Schools doubled twice and singled while Pierce provided a double and two singles.

Bonenfant stroked an RBI single for the Warriors and Bud Soucy added a single.

At Mount Desert, Nicole Smith allowed only six hits, struck out eight and walked none in earning the shutout for Bucksport.

Alice Andrews had three singles with two RBIs for the Golden Bucks while Smith doubled and singled. Katie Hurd doubled and singled with three RBIs. Terri Jordan and Kristi Allen each had three singles.

Emma Stanley singled twice Mount Desert Island and Lynne Bowden doubled.

At Woodland, pinch hitter Erin Crowe hit a two-run, bases-loaded single in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and seal the win for the Dragons.

Woodland’s Kaitlyn Leeman added an RBI single in the fifth. Katie Smith scattered four hits and fanned six.

Narraguagus of Harrington’s Elise Dublin took the loss despite allowing only three hits and striking out 10. She tripled and Chelsea Baker doubled.

Shawna Bell provided the game’s only run in the second inning when she doubled, advanced on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Jenny Rollins and Chantel Randall added singles for Central of Corinth.

Dani Graves was the hard-luck loser, firing a three-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk.

At Husson College in Bangor, Ada Athorp gave up only one run on three hits and no walks while fanning five to help lead John Bapst the victory.

Meaghan Brown hit two singles with an RBI for the Crusaders and Rachel Stearns singled twice.

Rachel Royce doubled for Orono and Emily Balaban hit an RBI single.

At Guilford, Cristy McGowen tossed a four-hitter, striking out nine and not walking anybody, and Tonia Morales’ two-run single sparked a three-run second inning that gave Dexter the lead for good.

Sarah Carnes had four singles for the winners, Morales had three and Nikki Chapman singled twice.

Christy Levesque, Teddie Galuski, Farren Knight and Tracy Dewey singled for PCHS.

So. Aroostook sweeps Ashland

At Dyer Brook, Chelsea Collier hit a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning and Carmen McLaughlin drove her home with a single to give Southern Aroostook a 13-12 win in the first game. The Warriors took the second game 11-8.

In the first game, Collier had two doubles and a single with three RBIs and Amanda Charette hit a double and three singles with two RBIs.

Pam Spooner hit two doubles and a single with three RBIs for Ashland and Danielle Long had two singles and three RBIs.

In the second game, Charette had two doubles and a single with one RBI for the Warriors and Raya King added two doubles with two RBIs.

Ashlee Peters hit two doubles and a single with two RBIs for the Hornets and Amber Smith doubled and singled.

Vicki Mulherin hit a two-run homer in the fourth for Limestone. Crystal Silva had an RBI double and Julie Peters added an RBI single.
