Andrews fires one-hitter as Bucks upend Hermon

BUCKSPORT – Alice Andrews fired a one-hitter, striking out 14 and walking two, to lead the Bucksport High School girls to a 7-0 softball win over Hermon Tuesday.

Terren Hall had two singles and a double with an RBI for the Golden Bucks and Andrews added three singles with two RBIs. Kristi Allen and Smith each doubled.

Cassandra Burnett singled in the fifth inning for Hermon.

At Orono, Nia Megquier singled twice and drove in two runs to lead Mount Desert Island to the win.

Jen Wright also singled twice for the Trojans.

Emily Balaban and Kaeley Spinney each singled twice with two RBIs for Orono.

At Bangor, Lindsay Mitchell had two doubles and three singles to drive in five runs and help guide Central of Corinth to the win.

Renee Trafton hit two doubles and a single with four RBIs for the Red Devils. Erica Brownell had four singles with four RBIs and Chantel Randall knocked in three runs on three singles.

Annie Babineau, Anne- Marie Hussey and Laura Hamm singled for Bangor Christian.

At Stacyville, Shelby Pickering belted a two-run homer to key an 11-run fourth inning that erased an 8-6 deficit.

Pickering also had two singles and drove in three runs. Samantha Cole and Lisa Bouchard each had a double and a single and Amy Lane singled twice. Cole and Lane had an RBI apiece.

Brooke Smallwood had a solo homer, a single and two RBIs for Katahdin. Jessica Green had a double and two singles, Brandi Violette had two doubles and an RBI and Chelsie Bates doubled and singled and drove in two runs.

At Husson College in Bangor, Heather Laferriere drove in six runs with three singles and sophomore righty Gwen Wadleigh tossed a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking four.

Gwen Carter doubled and singled and knocked in a run.

Sarah Anderson, Randi Kennedy and Lindsay Chase singled for Foxcroft Academy.

Dexter sweeps Schenck

At Dexter, righthander Sarah Carnes pitched a four-hitter in the opener and a one-hitter in the nightcap as Dexter took a pair, 2-0 and 12-0.

Carnes struck out seven and walked five in the first game and had four strikeouts and one walk in the second game.

Julie Lockhart’s second-inning single and Brittany Veazie’s sixth-inning fielder’s choice delivered the runs in the opener. Lockhart had two singles and Veazie had a single to go with her RBI fielder’s choice.

Ashley Gleason, Melissa Rideout, Kayla Osborne and Crystal Walsh had singles for Schenck of East Millinocket.

In the second game, Carnes aided her own cause with a triple, three singles and two RBIs. Sabrina Cote and Veazie (RBI) had three singles each; Cindy Koscielny tripled twice and Tania Morales (RBI) and Sara Wyman (two RBIs) had two singles each.

Courtney O’Donnell’s third-inning single was Schenck’s only hit.
