May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month. On behalf of my fellow social workers and the children and families we serve, I want to express my appreciation to foster parents for the contribution they make to the children and families of Maine.
We are fortunate to have foster parents in all parts of our state willing to open their homes to children who need nurturing and support. We need to recognize these foster parents – in May and all year round – for making an essential difference in the lives of these children.
A community-based response to issues of child abuse and neglect simply would not be possible without the extraordinary contribution and commitment of Maine’s foster families. They have our deepest thanks and gratitude.
