Lavway lifts Wildcats by Vikes

PRESQUE ISLE – Chad Lavway fired a four-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to an 11-3 high school baseball win over the Caribou Vikings Wednesday night.

Jeff Cole paced Presque Isle with three singles and three RBIs, while Lavway, Derrek Belanger and Danny Michaud posted two singles apiece.

Ryan Cousins doubled and singled for Caribou.

Mariners sweep Cougars

At Stacyville, Deer Isle-Stonington pitchers Bryant Ciomei and Nick Ciomei limited Katahdin batters to six hits in two games as the Mariners earned an 11-1 win in the opener of a doubleheader and took a 9-3 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Jeff Douglass drove in three runs on three singles for DI-Stonington. Nick Ciomei hit a double and a single for two RBIs while Shane Eaton singled twice and added an RBI.

James Zabierk and Patrick Willette each singled for Katahdin.

In the second game, Nick Ciomei struck out 10. Shane Eaton had two RBIs on a double and a single. Jeff Douglass added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Willette singled twice and struck out 10 in the loss.

At Thorndike, Taylor Helberg hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and singled to help lead Winslow to the win.

Ryan Lindie hit three singles for Winslow. Eric Lopez knocked a three-run double and Marty McCaslin added a double and Brian Mannke two singles with an RBI.

Steve Miles hit a double for Mount View and Willy Crieghton had a RBI single in the fourth.

At Hampden, Tyler Mackenzie and Josh Vile each had three singles and two RBIs to lead the Warriors of Newport to the win.

Dylan Carroll notched two singles with an RBI for Nokomis and Keith Peavey added two singles.

Anthony Willette doubled and scored on a passed ball for the Vikes.

At Hampden, Keiichi Sugesawa had two singles to drive in four runs and help push Hampden Academy to the win.

Pat Moran hit two doubles to knock in two runs for Hampden. Chris Pease had two singles with two RBIs and Kevin Brooks doubled and singled with a RBI.

Josh Vile doubled and scored for Nokomis of Newport in their third game of the day.

At Corinth, Mike Julian hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to help push Central past Searsport.

Josh Underhill, Matt Julian, and Nick Lancisi each had an RBI single for the Red Devils.

Matt Nickerson doubled and singled to drive in a run for Searsport and Chris Ashey had two singles with a RBI.

At Mount Desert, Nick Putnam smacked a three-run homer in addition to pitching a complete-game shutout en route to the win for the Eagles.

Cory Smith notched an RBI triple and single and Noah Jordan a two-run single for Ellsworth. Nate Jordan added an RBI single.

Jake Willis, Nick Swanson and Marcus Maffuci all singled for the Trojans.

Gerard Turgeon and Nick Emery each singled for Penquis.

At Howland, freshman Ryan Ware struck out five and aided his own cause with two singles to lead the Penobscot Valley Howlers over Wolverines.

Jake Crosby hit a go-ahead RBI double in the third and Matt Cummings added a single and RBI double for PVHS.

Nick Bishop had two singles and Shawn Landry had a double for Schenck of East Millinocket.

At Dexter, Chris Rabideau hit a three-run home run in the sixth to the end game and also doubled and singled with five RBIs to help lead Dexter.

Eric Day had a double and two singles with two RBIs for the Tigers. Tyler Poirier hit a RBI double and Kyle Stone had a run-scoring single.

Josh Lewellen hit a triple and two singles to knock in two runs for Piscataquis of Guilford and Andy Zimmerman hit a RBI single.

Softball

Cougars take two from Mariners

At Stacyville, K.C. Duffy-Stanley singled twice and drove in a run as Katahdin topped Deer Isle-Stonington 14-4 in the first game of a doubleheader, then singled twice in the Cougars’ 19-7 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Lindsay Albert tripled, hit three singles and added an RBI for Katahdin. Ronni Robinson had a two-run single.

Chris Fifield singled twice and Sarah Judkins singled and plated two runs for the Mariners.

In the second game, Katahdin’s Jessica Green had three RBIs, a double and a single. Shellie Martin and Brandi Violette each hit three singles.

Erin Bray singled twice and Heather Hutchinson had an RBI double for DI-Stonington.

At Hampden, Ashley Bragdon gave up just three runs on two hits and three walks while fanning 10 to help lead Nokomis past Caribou in their second game of the day.

Aimee Paradis doubled three times to drive in four runs for Nokomis of Newport and Chris Pushor hit a double and two singles.

Christi Zbyluti and Heather Brissette each singled for Caribou.

At Rockport, Kate Ross hit a triple, double, and single to knock in two runs and help lead the Lions to victory.

Kayla Gushee singled twice for Camden Hills.

Catie Cravens doubled and singled to drive in a run for Ellsworth. Maggie Seavey had two singles and Darci Fortier singled with two RBIs.

Nia Megquier hit an RBI double in the seventh inning and Becca Goff singled.

Melissa Rideout picked up the loss despite allowing one hit and striking out 15 for Schenck of East Millinocket. Nichole Rudge and Ashley Peabody each singled.
