BANGOR – Police are looking for suspects who caused an estimated $500 in damage to Bangor High School in what officials surmised was a typical prank by seniors that got a little out of hand.

Sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said, a group strung toilet paper on the exterior of the building and used spray paint to write profanities on the brick siding.

Bangor police also reported three broken windows at the school where suspects had gained entrance.

Officers arriving at 2:56 a.m. found receivers ripped from telephones inside hanging in nearby trees.

Police said the same type of vandalism occurred last year and the year before and felt confident they would find out who was responsible.

Bangor police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon after his girlfriend said he threw her down the stairs.

Detective Jeff Small reported that at about 4 p.m. he and Officer James Dearing went to a Center Street apartment building, where they met a woman sitting on the front porch and crying. Small said the woman told him that her boyfriend, Brian Ingalls, 32, of Bangor, threw her down the stairs.

She said she and Ingalls were arguing and that she threatened to leave Ingalls and began packing. Ingalls then told her to get out, she said, and threw her down the stairs. She told Small she grabbed the railing to break her fall, but the railing broke. She landed on her back, she said, but wasn’t hurt.

The woman told Small that she went back to the apartment a little later to get her shoes, but when Ingalls grabbed her, she brandished a broomstick in self-defense. According to the woman, Ingalls then said, “I could kill you with this,” holding the stick against her neck. The woman left.

Dearing reported that Ingalls denied hitting or pushing his girlfriend, but showed Dearing scratches on his arm made by his girlfriend. Ingalls told Dearing she scratched him when he took the broomstick from her because she was threatening Ingalls with it. The woman admitted she scratched Ingalls, Small said.

Small arrested Ingalls and charged him with assault. Dearing took Ingalls to Penobscot County Jail and from there called Poison Control to identify some pills found in an unlabeled prescription bottle in Ingalls’ possession. The bottle contained 3 pills of Ambien, an anti-insomnia drug, and 48 pills of Flexeril, a muscle relaxant. While Ingalls claimed he had a prescription, Poison Control informed Dearing that it is unusual for so many Flexeril pills to be prescribed at once. Dearing charged Ingalls with possession of Schedule Z drugs.

A Brewer woman allegedly stole photographs from Wal-Mart Wednesday afternoon.

Brewer police Officer Rodney Gerald reported that at about 5 p.m. he went to Wal-Mart for a shoplifter in custody. Store security told him Heather Gilg, 29, of Brewer, was seen concealing a pack of developed photographs under her jacket in her shopping cart. Gilg then walked around the store, staff told Gerald, eventually paid for some other merchandise and left without paying for the photographs.

Gilg was summoned for theft. The photographs were priced at $9.75.
